1. A COMMUNITY OUTREACH FEEDING HUNGRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN IN FLORENCE COUNTY Florence, SC A nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization

2. HUNGER  As a result of being hungry, have you experienced on a daily basis: –A gnawing feeling in your stomach? –Light-headedness? –Dizziness? –Headaches? –Lethargy or weakness? –Inability to concentrate? –A craving for food? –Pain?

3. HUNGER  THOUSANDS of elementary school children in Florence County regularly experience those symptoms.  They may not know where their next meal is coming from. –THEY ARE TRULY HUNGRY.  Working together, and with God’s help, we can strive to end this hunger.

4. THE PLAN  Focus on the elementary schools in FSD 1 beginning with the 2013- 2014 school year. Expand into the other Florence School Districts in the following years as resources permit.  Officials at FSD 1 were briefed on this outreach ministry and support it.  Churches, in partnership with businesses, service clubs and members of the community: –Provide during the school year pre-packaged, self-serving nutritious food to take home for the weekend to elementary school children in FSD 1 who are at risk of hunger.

5. THE PLAN  At-risk children within the free and reduced lunch population were identified by school administrators.  A permission agreement with participating families was distributed.

6. THE PLAN  There is no cost to either the school or participating families for the food.  Meals are bagged by volunteers and are delivered to the schools by volunteers. –Meal bags are discreetly placed in the students’ backpacks by school personnel.

7. THE PLAN  The food consists of nutritious, child-friendly, self- serving foods that are selected using the Feed America guidelines and best practices.  With the support of local food vendors, the cost is between $2.00 - $3.00 per bag.  $100 will feed one child for the academic year.

9. THE PLAN  Meals are being provided to all 14 elementary schools in FSD 1, as well as to the R.N. Beck Center, for distribution to children who are at risk of hunger.  As of early March 2014, 520+ students are being provided with a meal for the weekend.

10. THE PLAN  As a result of the community’s generosity, this ministry will serve elementary school students in FSD 4 (Timmonsville) in the 2014-2015 school year.  God willing, during the next several years the program will expand into FSD 2 (Pamplico), FSD 3 (Lake City) and FSD 5 (Johnsonville)

11. FUNDING  The project is relying on the generosity of individuals, churches, businesses and service clubs in the community.  Various fund-raising and food drive activities have been conducted and will continue.  Applications have been, and will continue to be, submitted for various corporate and foundation grants.
