3 Jewish name for Deuteronomy is “devarim” “words” derived from the opening expression “These are the words Moses spoke to Israel”

4 Deuteronomy got its English name from the unfortunate mistranslation of a phrase in 17:18 “write for himself on a scroll a copy of the law”

5 Comes from the Greek “deuteros” meaning second and “nomos” meaning law
