The Water Cycle Created by: Stacey Osborne

Essential Questions?? What are the stages of the water cycle and how can I identify them?

Did you know… That all of the water that is on the Earth now is all that we will ever have… That the water we have is limited… That we will never run out of it…because it is consistently recycled through the water cycle.

How Earth’s Water Cycles The water cycle is the cycling of water between Earth’s waters, atmosphere, and land. The same water we drink today was used by the people who fought in the American Revolution!! The first step of the water cycle starts with the sun.

Heat from the sun.. Causes Evaporation of water from the Earth’s surface (A)

After Evaporation occurs… Clouds form at this point in the water cycle. They form into water vapor (gas state). This is called Condensation (B).Condensation

Condensation is followed by… That thing that keeps us from going to recess….Precipitation (C) which is any form of water that falls from clouds to Earth. It can take the form of rain, snow, sleet, hail or freezing rain.

What happens to all of that Precipitation? There are several things that can occur. It can sink into the soil. It then collects underground. Water can also become runoff, which is water that flows over land with out sinking into the soil. It usually flows into rivers, lakes, or the ocean. This is called Accumulation.

What now you ask….??? The cycle starts over again…starts Evaporation Condensation Precipitation Accumulation

Quiz time… What are the steps to the water cycle? What does evaporation do as a part of the water cycle? When precipitation falls to Earth it then can become_________________. What are some forms of precipitation? What provides heat energy for the water cycle?

What are the steps to the water cycle? Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and accumulation.

What does evaporation do as a part of the water cycle? It brings surface water into the atmosphere.

When precipitation falls to Earth it then can become_________________. Runoff which will then lead to rivers, lakes, oceans. This is also called accumulation.

What are some forms of precipitation? Rain, snow, sleet, hail, or freezing rain

What provides heat energy for the water cycle? The Sun!!!!
