Information session on VTAC, the tertiary application process and the range of post school study opportunities available Tertiary Expo - representatives from Victorian universities, TAFEs and independent colleges available to help with your post school study options; course guides and flyers available Questions?

4 VTAC update Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre Central office that administers the application and offer process for places in tertiary courses at university, TAFE and Independent Tertiary Colleges VTAC also ▫ Calculates and issues the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) ▫ Administers SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme) ▫ Administers scholarship applications

7 VTAC applications Registration and course applications open Monday 3 August Timely course applications close 30 September Application fee $29 (for timely applications) Registrations close Friday 4 th December

8 Registrations open Monday 3 rd August Register on VTAC home page to set up a user account Once registered, you can log in and make a course application. You can also: –Update your personal details –Change preferences as many times as you like –Lodge a SEAS and scholarships application –Access messages from VTAC –Pay the application fee –Email VTAC –Access your ATAR (when released 14 December) –View your offer (when released in mid January) Application Process

9 The course application To add course preferences: Select institution and/or course or type in the course code. To move a course on the preference list use the up/down buttons. To delete a course use the x button.

13 Preparation for 2016 Students not intending to apply for tertiary study in 2016 are also required to attend an interview to finalise plans for next year. If applying for Interstate universities, make 2nd appointment if you would like assistance to complete application. Tax File Number – if you do not have one already, apply for one now; required on day of enrolment if applying for HECs or FeeHelp. Final Information Pack provided in term 4.

14 SEAS – Special Entry Access Scheme Allows selection officers to grant special consideration to students who have experienced educational disadvantage Does not exempt you from meeting the course entry requirements

15 SEAS categories 1.Personal Information – no evidence required 2.Difficult Circumstances 3.Disadvantaged Financial Background 4.Disability or Medical Condition

16 SEAS documentation Required for categories 2, 3 & 4 Impact Statement prepared by YOU Statement should focus on impact of your circumstances on your education Must state if disadvantage short term (2013 or later) or long term (existed prior to 2012) Maximum 2000 characters

17 SEAS Impact Statements ‘When writing an impact statement, be brief. It is the quality of the information, not the length of prose that makes your application stronger. Write enough to describe the circumstances and their educational impact, but do not repeat yourself or try to be creative in your writing style.’

18 SEAS Statement of Support Must be written by a ‘responsible’ person familiar with your circumstances, e.g.: counsellor, teacher, social worker, etc. The responsible person should support the circumstances described in your application and comment on how the circumstances have affected your educational performance Disability/Medical category – must be written by your treating medical practitioner

19 SEAS applications SEAS Applications:  Open 3 rd August  Close 6 th October (2 nd day term 4) Start preparing Impact Statement NOW and contact provider of Statement of Support No last minute applications please!

20 Scholarships VTAC administers large number of scholarships: –Merit scholarships (ATAR based): no separate application required; automatically considered by institutions on your application –Equity and Access scholarships: separate application required through VTAC; SEAS applicants eligible –Scholarship applications Open 3 August Close 16 October

Atmosphere – what does it ‘feel like’ Campus & sporting facilities, clubs, etc. Speak directly to staff members, selection officers and current students about the course/s you are interested in

26 Getting the most out of Open Days Do your VTAC research first; decide which institutions and courses you are interested in Register on institution website open day page; use the online planners to streamline your visit.
