1
Dividing Decimals I CAN divide decimals by a whole numbers and decimals.
2
Parts of a Division Problem: 545 9 dividend divisor quotient
3
To divide a decimal by a whole number move the decimal point straight up and then divide as usual
4
25 7.5 Example 1 Terminating decimal is a decimal number that ends, or terminates in the quotient.
5
Let’s do a few together 11 4.4
6
Example 2: Showing the Remainder as a Decimal. 130 ÷ 20 Place the decimal point in the dividend and then move it up to the quotient. Add a zero to the dividend. Continue dividing.
7
Now you try. Hint: You may need to add more than one zero!
8
You try this…. 2 ÷ 3 Repeating decimal is a decimals that one or more numbers repeat.

Dividing Decimals by a Decimal I CAN divide decimals by a whole numbers and decimals.
10
To divide a decimal by a decimal move the decimal point in the divisor over to make a whole number: 45 1 35
11
Now, move the decimal point in the dividend over the same number of spaces and then move your decimal point straight up and divide 45 1 35
12
To divide a decimal by a decimal move the decimal point in the divisor over to make a whole number. Then you move the same amount of spaces in your dividend. 1.35 ÷.45
13
Modeling.35 ÷ 7
14
You try this…. Find each quotient. 1. 49 ÷ 0.7 2. 21.63 ÷ 2.1 3. 38.43 ÷ 6.1 4. 16.9 ÷ 5.2 5. John spent $13.44 renting 4 videos for the weekend. What was the cost per video? 6.
