21 What are the key responsibilities of a Program Director?
Serve as a liaison between the scientific community and the NCI Serve as a steward of federal funds

22 What do Program Directors do?
I. Pre-Award Phase: Advise scientists on grant applications Attend study section reviews Advise applicants on summary statements and resubmissions Resolve issues on scientific overlap, budget, human/animal subjects and other IRG concerns, foreign applications/foreign components Manage appeals Work with grants management specialists on making awards

23 What do Program Directors do?
II. Post-Award Phase: Monitor progress of research grants Review and approve annual progress reports Report major advances to NCI/NIH leadership Identify gaps/needs/opportunities in the cancer research arena Monitor compliance of regulations, policies, special terms of the award Contact point for requests of administrative supplement funding (Elisa Woodhouse)
