WELCOME TO SBIP Action Research

Outlines: i/ RESEARCH ii/ WHAT IS AN ACTION RESEARCH? iii/ TYPES OF ACTION RESEARCH iv/ FEATURES OF ACTION RESEARCH v/ PROCESS OF ACTION RESEARCH vi/ ACTION PLAN vii/ WHY EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH?

Research: It is exploring new ideas. It is done by somebody who has curiosity to learn. QUALITIES OF RESEARCHER: Interest & Patience.

What is an action research? Action Research is an enquiry which is carried out in order to understand, evaluate and then to change, in order to improve some educational practice. (Bassay,1998) OR Action Research is a systematic collection of data in order to answer a research question for the purpose of improvement. ( Maxwell, 2003)

Types of Action Research: i/ Individual Teacher Research Single classroom issue ii/ Collaborative Action Research Single classroom or several classrooms with common issue iii/ School wide Action Research School issue, problem, or area of collective interest iv/ District wide Action research District issue

Features of Action Research: Action Research is for the professional development It is not one shot or pit-stop workshop. It is small, manageable and achievable, yet very effective. It can be done while teaching our usual classes. It is a process of change for the improvement through involvement. It requires baseline data to measure improvement brought about as a result of our intervention.

Process of Action Research: 1/ RECONNAISSANCE; a/ Situational Analysis: The Country The School (edn system) b/ Literature Review it is an account of what has already been published on the topic by scholars and researchers. it refers to a collection of materials on the topic. ( pamphlets, books, journals & websites etc…)

Why do we write Literature Review? To inform/ update the reader with what is current in the field. To add reliability to the research paper on the subject. To see what has and has not been investigated. C/ Competence of the people involved.

2/ Action Research Question: It should be specific. It should be achievable. It should be intended for improvement. eg: “ How can I improve the student’s performance in maths?” “ How can I improve the student’s performance in algebra in maths?”

3/ BASE-LINE DATA COLLECTION: ( Analyze) 4/ INTERVENTION PROGRAMME: ( Strategies) i.e; what am I going to do? eg: encourage maximum participation, asking questions and giving reinforcement, creating conducive environment & assigning and checking home works etc…

5/ POST – DATA COLLECTION: ( after intervention) Data collection tools: class test, interviews, questionnaires, checking books & keeping records in the class etc…. (Should attach all the data's collected.) Analyze and compare the base line and post data. Write a reflection. 6/ REFERENCING: Failure to acknowledge your sources properly constitutes plagiarism and academic dishonesty.

Action Plan: 1 st Month: Make careful observation/ situational analysis. 2 nd Month: collect base line data and analyze. 3 rd & 4 th Month: implement strategies. 5 th Month: Post Data collection and analysis. 6 th Month: compilation and organization of post data.

Why Educational Research? Enhance the quality of education. Problem solving. Study the education system. Improve our(teachers) practices.

thank you………
