3 What’s the difference between Resume Objective & Resume Summary? Objective – what you want to achieve Summary – what you have to offer IMPORTANT Stating your objective on your resume is optional, having an objective for your resume is not - you need to be clear about your employment goals!!

4 Use the objective when you know the exact title and position you are applying for when submitting your resume.your resume when you want to focus on a specific goal rather than specific experience

5 Resume Objective – Precisely states what is desired – Takes away all guesswork as to the resume goal – Makes it easy for the reader to identify best use of the information – Serves as a guide for the rest of the information in the resume

6 A good resume objective statement should tell the reader what the candidate will do for him. Specifically, it ought to tell him what profit the candidate will add.

7 Examples of Objectives To contribute superior project and operations management skills and experience in an IT Service Management role To obtain a management position, in which I am given the opportunity to play a direct role in the unlimited growth and success of solid organization.

8 Use the summary statement when you have a variety of skills that can be used in more than one job. The summary statement: – Makes it clear up front you have the skills needed for a job – Makes it clear you have skills that may be useful in more than one job – Forces the reader to skim a brief statement of your qualifications

9 Example Summary Statement Experience with rolling out products, producing product training materials, conducting product training, developing and implementing marketing strategies. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Proven record in project development and management.

10 Use of both Objective and Summary Objective Executive assistant position allowing for parlay of demonstrated organization, customer service, communication, and project management skills proven by 12 years of successful, profitable self- employment. Profile / Professional Summary Motivated, personable business professional with multiple college degrees and a successful 12-year track record of profitable small business ownership. Talent for quickly mastering technology – recently completed Microsoft Office Suite certificate course. Diplomatic and tactful with professionals and non-professionals at all levels. 11 Past Accomplishments This portion should be a list of 3 to 6 selected accomplishments directly relating to the position that the summary indicates you seek. These should be as quantifiable as possible: Answer the questions: How many/much? Which one? To what extent? What kind?

12 Professional Experience List the companies you have worked for, your title and the dates of employment (year to year, exclude months). Avoid listing duties or responsibilities Focus on in achievements, successes, and contributions Remember to quantify, quantify, quantify!

13 Use Active Positive Verbs for Impact Avoid: Responsibilities included supervising.. Do: Start your sentences with action verbs! This immediately highlights the skill used and focuses the readers attention. Example: Supervised a trainee sales assistant at Boots Pharmacy by continually evaluating their performance and supporting weaknesses where necessary.

14 Use C-A-R METHOD for impact C-A-R reframe achievements by adding the context in which they occurred: Challenge you encountered Action you took to solve it and Results that came about from your actions.

15 Examples of the C-A-R strategy: Original Sentence: Grew revenue 21% in 3 different markets. C-A-R Strategy: Grew revenue 21%, adding $1.7 million in 3 markets by training new sales representatives in benefit selling techniques. NOTE-rework C-A-R to start with results.

16 C-A-R strategy Original statement: Improved operations efficiency for production plant. C-A-R Strategy: Added 20% more operational output, despite use of outdated equipment, by developing training manual to increase employee efficiency.
