2 Messaging The HPV Vaccine is Cancer Prevention

3  In 2012, if all missed opportunities for HPV vaccination had been eliminated, coverage with ≥1 dose of HPV vaccine could have reached 92.6%  By increasing 3-dose HPV vaccination coverage to 80%, an estimated additional 53,000 cases of cervical cancer could be prevented over the lifetimes of those aged ≤12 years In 2007, Australia began providing the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine free to girls 12 to 18 in a school-based program. Now researchers have calculated the effect on the incidence of genital warts in women 15 to 27. The study found that the rate of genital warts in young Australian women decreased by 61 percent, while rates in age and sex groups not covered by the program were unchanged.

4 Main Goal: To increase the number of age- eligible males and females who complete the recommended 3-dose course of HPV vaccination in the Pittsburgh MSA. Normalize HPV vaccination in provider’s office Disseminate culturally-competent messages focusing on the singular opportunity the HPV vaccine presents to prevent certain types of cancer Locate and reach prioritized groups through traditional and non-traditional messengers Track vaccination rates through health insurance providers Influence policy change to attain long-term sustainability
