Oxygen Consumption- VO2  Is the amount of Oxygen taken up and consumed by the body for metabolic process  Equal to the amount of oxygen inspired minus the amount of oxygen expired  The greater the workload the greater the VO2 or the greater the amount of oxygen used by the body

 VO2 Max –the maximum volume of oxygen in ml that the body can use in 1 minute, per kg of body weight  It measures how efficiently the cardiovascular system can process oxygen for use by the athlete

 Incremental exercise to exhaustion  Progressive difficulty every minute or two  Heart rate is monitored ( Max HR can be an indicator of VO2 Max)  Borg Scale used for exhaustion levels  What is the preferred method...Why?

 Look on page 128 and guess where you would be?  Are their differences between sports?

 With training you can reach higher limits  An athlete with a greater VO2 Max should be able to perform longer at a given workload than an athlete with a lower VO2 Max  Complete all Respiratory Questions for Monday 13-20  Last video
