4 doc.: IEEE 802.11-11/0672r0 Submission May 2011 ZTE CorporationSlide 4 11ah network operation & management 11ah network operation & management here is referred to operation& management of the 11ah AP by protocol SNMP.etc and 11ah stations by the proxy of 11ah AP using capabilities of IEEE 802.11v, IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u. Based on the Use Case 1, Use Case 2,and Use Case 3,some specific Use Cases may not need capabilities of IEEE 802.11v, IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u,but others may need, so the problem is IEEE 802.11v, IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u may only apply to some specific Use Cases and we may consider this. Specific use cases are deployed in agricultural or other relatively bad environment,so maintenance is relatively difficult, besides this, a number of wireless sensor controllers are battery powered, so we may consider how operator can handle this situation.

6 doc.: IEEE 802.11-11/0672r0 Submission May 2011 ZTE CorporationSlide 6 11ah network operation &management considerations -1 Use Case 1 : Sensors and meters –11ah AP should be managed through protocol SNMP, etc. –If 11ah station function is implemented in each wireless sensor controller, then IEEE 802.11v,IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u may not be implemented due to higher cost or other reasons. Use Case 2 : Backhaul Sensor and meter data –11ah AP should be managed through protocol SNMP, etc. –If 15.4g-11ah router is deployed, then IEEE 802.11v, IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u may be supported. –To support legacy 15.4g network management a transparent channel might be provided. Use Case 3 : Extended range Wi-Fi –11ah AP should be managed through protocol SNMP, etc. –IEEE 802.11v, IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u may be supported by 11ah,so the operator could operate& manage not only 11ahAP, but also 11ah stations by the proxy of 11ah AP using capabilities provided by IEEE 802.11v IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u. So the problem is IEEE 802.11v,IEEE 802.11k or IEEE 802.11u may only apply to some specific Use Cases and we may consider this.

7 doc.: IEEE 802.11-11/0672r0 Submission May 2011 ZTE CorporationSlide 7 11ah network operation &management considerations –2 A number of 11ah wireless sensor controllers are battery powered in Use Case 1 and Use Case 2 and we may consider how to handle this situation for efficient network operation& management by the operator especially in relatively bad environment. –In Use Case 1, IEEE 802.11v could help report the battery power value to 11ah AP, then the operator can be notified, but IEEE 802.11v may not totally meet this need and this may result in higher cost of sensor controllers. –In Use Case 2b in which 15.4g-11ah Router is used, the battery power status value may be reported by 15.4g coordinator and then reported by 11ah station to the 11ah AP using IEEE 802.11v. So when discussing issue of “Coexistence with IEEE802.15 and IEEE802.15.4g”, this may be considered.
