Creating this presentation Design: Please use this new design template but you do not have to use all of these suggested slide content. Content Outline: You do not have to use the exact outline and content, but we are trying to keep the Domain presentations generally similar, but also understand that each Domain may wish to tell their story a bit differently. IHE information / overview slides: There are six slides that provide a high-level IHE overview. You do not have to use all six [unless you wish to and have time] but please do include a few so that all audiences will at least have the some basic grounding.

Creating this presentation Please do use the last slides or the content – Important Dates – Resources – End Slide Idea slides: At the end of the deck are several sample slides. You do not have to use all of these – they are provided to help generate ideas. Images: Photos provide a nice visual break. There are only a few in this template as we did not want to make the file too large. However, please feel free to add photos.

IHE Overview IHE is… a global initiative started in 1997 that creates the framework for passing vital health information seamlessly – from application to application, system to system, and setting to setting – across multiple healthcare enterprises.

IHE Overview IHE is… led by volunteer members and sponsors representing diverse communities – 300 organizational members worldwide on four continents and over 24 countries representing – Academic Medical professionals – Practicing Clinicians – Healthcare Administrators – Membership Organizations [ACP, HIMSS< RSNA etc] – HIT Vendors, Consultants – And more

IHE Overview IHE … hosts two major types of activities – Conformance testing at Connectathons – Demonstrations at Interoperability Showcases

What does IHE do? Enables Standards-based Interoperability  IHE improves patient care by harmonizing electronic health information exchange such as HL7, IEEE, DICOM and others to specific healthcare interoperability needs Data exchange  Use of IHE profiles enable approved standards to seamlessly pass health information among care providers on a local, regional and national level

What does IHE do? Public forum & consensus  All work output developed through a broad, consensus-based committee process and subjected to public review Publish and Promote  IHE Technical Frameworks freely available to all, promoted through public demonstrations and education events

What does IHE do? Implement and Test  Rigorous testing process and extensive tool set for implementers Globally recognized  The IHE Global Standards Adoption process as approved by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as a Technical Report 28380 in August 2007

Example: The IT Infrastructure Domain supplies infrastructure for sharing healthcare information. An infrastructure interoperability component represents a common IT function that is used as a building block for a variety of use cases... a necessary ingredient, but rarely visible to the end user!!

These components may be embedded in an application, but are often deployed as a shared resource within a RHIO or Health Information Exchange (HIE). This domain began in 2003, is sponsored by HIMSSHIMSS The ITI domain Profiles detailed in theProfiles IT Infrastructure Technical Framework Learn more: http://wiki.ihe.net/index.php?title=IT_Infrastructurehttp://wiki.ihe.net/index.php?title=IT_Infrastructure
