2 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Unintentional injury is the #1 killer of children ages 15 and under in the U.S. Kills more children every year than any other childhood diseases combined! However … These injuries CAN be prevented! Facts

3 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Accidental injury is the leading cause of death (40%) among children under the age of 15 As much as 90% of these injuries can be easily prevented Common causes: biking accidents, faulty car booster seats, domestic dangers, playground injuries, and drowning accidents What is PTP? Accidents result from a lack of proper equipment Lack of education about child safety makes the treatment more difficult PTP is the CNH District’s area of focus

4 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Participating Foundations Kiwanis CNH Foundation recognized the need for education/training of prevention Established the Pediatric Trauma Program in 1994 PTP pairs up with hospitals around our district to facilitate relations Hospitals in San Diego, Oakland, Madera, Reno, Honolulu, and Loma Linda

5 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Programs and Projects Purchase much needed medical equipment such as immobilization boards, incubators, and blood pressure gauges Create or expand community outreach programs that teach the community about the importance of seat belts, helmets, and playground safety etc. PTP creates and funds programs to: Train pediatric doctors, nurses, and first responders to specialize in child care

6 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Donations for PTP are spent in a few major areas: Grants to our partner hospitals-- used to fund pedand create safety programs to teach staff to specialize in child care & inform the public Money is used to train pediatric doctors as well PTP safety items & equipment- such as helmets, electric outlet covers, medical equipment, and child ID kits Financial Distribution

7 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Sample Events Help prevent unintentional injuries by sponsoring a service project on topics such as: Bicycle Safety Booster Seats Child Abuse Prevention Child Safety Children's Miracle Network Fire Prevention First Aid and CPR Home Safety Immunizations Injury Prevention Playground Safety Poison Prevention Shaken Baby Syndrome Smoking Awareness Water Safety Car washes Restaurant fundraisers Talent Shows Awake-A-Thons Bake Sales Dances Movie Nights Creating PTP dolls What are your ideas?

8 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Established to assist SLP clubs in financing PTP service projects on a start up basis PTP grants are for new PTP projects only Grant funding is limited to 50% of the total project cost, up to $250 per grant Grants for PTP

9 Training Topic: Pediatric Trauma Program CNH Key Club District| Key Club International | CNH Complete the SLP - PTP grant application and include the following: –An estimate of service hours committed to the project –Date when funds are required –A copy of the club’s current year Community Service Budget (if available) – A project budget including club funds committed, “in-kind” donations, and other sources of outside funding How to Apply
