The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation Investigation of route occupancy Fulfilled by: Marina Ivanenko IAN 403 Supervisor: Grekhov A.M., Doctor of Sciences

Why is it important nowadays? Investigation of Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre route occupancy and determination of possible parameters for airspace reorganization. Investigation of route occupancy 2 Topic of the presentation: In the nearest future a huge changes in airspace organization should be done because European airspace tends to oversaturation point.

Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre 3 Investigation of route occupancy

Traffic Data Analyser (TDA) Investigation of route occupancy 5

Till 60 aircraft are accepted every hour within a sector Traffic depends on: Investigation of route occupancy 6 the location of the sector the complexity of the traffic flows involved the time of day/week/month Capacity is 60 Traffic will double Airspace at over saturation point

The main flows parameters: Investigation of route occupancy 7 1 1 Airspace density 2 2 Aircraft types 3 3 Time dependency of routes occupancy

Conclusion: Reorganization of sectors on a flexible and dynamic base, which will depend on the main routes, heaviest aircraft and season, weekday and daytime variables, will help to handle continuously growing amount of traffic, decrease of the air traffic controller’s workload, simplify a procedure of aircraft control at decreasing the controller-pilot communication, maximize entire potential of airspace usage and ensure the safe and effective provision of air navigation service.
