24. What types of ideologies (political, religious or other) influence your country’s government? North Korea is communist (the government makes all economic decisions)

25. Is North Korea a democracy or a dictatorship? North Korea is a dictatorship under Kim Jung Il. (He has run the country since 1994.) There are no real elections. He runs a cult of personality

33. 1946 Soviets install a communist government in North Korea which declares independence from South Korea four years later.

34. 1950 South Korea, assisted by the US, invades North Korea. This becomes known as the Korean War.

35. 1953 An armistice between North and South Korea is signed. This is still in effect, the countries never signed a peace treaty. The two countries remain divided by a demilitarized zone.
