5. Computers in the Law School The Law School has its own computer lab in room SUB 022.

9. Online Databases As a student at Northumbria you will have access to a vast amount of legal information electronically. This will in effect give you access to a law library from the comfort of your own home.

12. BAILII The British and Irish Legal Information Institute. This is a free database and can be accessed without a username or password.

13. Butterworths Direct The Law School subscribes to some of the services offered on Butterworths Direct, but not all of them. The IT handbook contains a list of the databases we subscribe to.

14. Casetrack A premium service offered by Smith Bernal. Available via the Justis website.

15. Criminal Law Week Specialist Criminal Law Website Non Athens password – see the IT Community on the e-learning portal.

16. Estates Gazette Interactive This is the leading online property law database.

17. Gore Brown Reputedly the best online company law database available. Access to this database is non athens

18. Justis Justis will provide access to Daily Cases Family Law Reports Justcite Weekly Law Reports Mental Health Law Reports Times Law Reports

19. Lawtel Lawtel is a very popular online database for legal professionals. Access to Lawtel is via Athens

20. Lexis Nexis Professional Lexis is a very large database. Help with using Lexis is available from the Butterworth’s Student Associate.

21. Medical Litigation Online A very useful database dealing primarily with medical law.

22. Westlaw Westlaw is a huge online legal database You can search for cases, legislation and also journal articles.

24. Free legal Information There is a large amount of free legal information available on the Internet. Many of these sites are listed on the legal links page on the law school website.

25. CD ROMS Some legal databases are not available on the Internet but on CD ROM. IOLIS Oyez Forms

26. E-Learning Portal Northumbria University students have access to an e-learning portal. http://e-learning.northumbria.ac.uk This was formerly known as Blackboard.

27. Student Printing Each student will receive 1000 free print credits per academic year. Unused credits will not be rolled over.

28. Desktop Anywhere Useful service that will allow a student to be ‘virtually’ located within the University.

29. ‘U’ Drive Every student has access to 80 mega bytes of network storage

30. Wi Fi Most of the University is capable of wireless networking.
