1 History of Telematics, Telemetry, & M2M Technology
Joe Jesson TCF 2007

2 What is Telematics? Telematics is the integration of wireless communications, computing power, GPS Sensors and mobile assets Over the past 20 years there has been rapid advancements in five telematics areas: In-Vehicle Devices Wireless Communication Data Sets Server Architecture Applications

3 Geostationary Satellites Low Earth Orbiting Satellites (LEO)
Wireless Communication - Timeline 1980 1990 2000 2010 Short range communication IR DSRC Cellular Digital Cellular - GSM, GPRS, iDEN, CDPD, CDMA, EDGE, 1xRTT, EvDO Analog Cellular - AMPS, Aeris, net Satellite Geostationary Satellites Low Earth Orbiting Satellites (LEO)

8 Asset of the Future More knowledge: What do you need to know?
Geo-fencing XML Feed and Advanced Analytics Cargo Sensor Door Sensor Location STANDARDS TTIS - Exists This slide is about getting the customer to imagine having more knowledge about their trailers using the GE VeriWise features available today or in the near term (door and cargo sensors.) And then, getting them to think about what they may need to know in the future. Use this opportunity to collect VOC regarding what features the customer really needs and what value he/she puts on the features (what are they willing to pay for the feature?) This is a two stage slide— First - Automatically shows the product features GE VeriWise has or will have in the near term. Second – click to bring the overlay into the slide. Gives them an idea of some of the things they might want to know about in the future. RE-EMPHASIZE – GE VeriWise has the potential to do these things. You will not have to replace the box to add this functionality. So as Trailer Fleet Services develops these functions, you don’t have to worry about replacing the box. Many of these features can be add “over the air.” Sensors interfaces are already built into the box.

9 Device Control & Configuration
