8 Measuring Information Society WSIS, Tunis - 15 November 2005 Mainstreaming vs measurement ? The problems –Sector data are still lacking –If available, they will only give part of the picture (digital divide/applications) –The push towards ‘mainstreaming’ will make measurement more difficult

9 Measuring Information Society WSIS, Tunis - 15 November 2005 Mainstreaming vs measurement ? Possible steps to be taken –Strengthen local statistical capacity (data collection) –Foster agencies’ abilities (andf interest) to collect application-related data –Encourage development sectors (e.g. health, education) to identify common IT indicators linked to performance and development impact.
