2. Welcome to IT 101! Our plan is to introduce you to a few basic technology items. We designed this to be short and to the point – only 8 slides. The last two slides are a few suggested exercises that will put you on better footing for the beginning of classes. If you have already been into your MVNU email account and created your my.MVNU.edu account, you can stop immediately, return to the checklist and mark completed. If you need some basic information then continue on. First, an explanation of a few concepts …

3. Technology Accounts You will be using several computer systems while attending MVNU. Three of the first systems are the network, email, and my.MVNU.edu. All three of these use the same login name (ex: jsmith for John Smith). The initial password for the network and email is your ID number. However, the password for my.MVNU.edu is created by you.

4. The Network and Email You will use the MVNU network to access documents, spreadsheets, videos, etc for classes. You are also able to store your documents here. Each student is allocated 100 megabytes of space. Email can be accessed either by the web (webmail.mvnu.edu) or a software program on a MVNU owned computer. For students who want to load the software on their personal computer, a Novell Groupwise CD can be checked out at the library.

5. my.MVNU.edu my.MVNU.edu is another computer system that organizes many systems into one access point. It also contains your personal MVNU information such as chapel attendance, privacy codes, financial aid, classes and grades, directories, vehicle registration, registration and billing, roommate, and post office box combination. Your account on my.MVNU.edu is not setup automatically. You must select ‘ Create my account ’ on the left side of the web page. Simply typing my.MVNU.edu in a web browser will get you to the login. You will need to access this to confirm for classes.

7. In order to be ready for the start of school, you are strongly encouraged to access your email and create your my.MVNU.edu account. This will also make sure the set-up for your basic technology has been completed. So click on the following links and: 1.
