1. Gender Stereotypes Gender stereotypes play a role in every society. The boundaries between what men and women could do were kept up for many centuries, but the walls are falling down. Our generation is changing what was, but it didn’t just start with us…

2. Women of the 1920’s and 1930’s set out to pave the road for the women in politics. It was tough because the ground they started on was bumpy and hard. These women worked tirelessly for equality for the men thought of them not being as smart as them.

3. Since the marches made by women to persuade the government to let them vote, women have made much progress. Two examples are Sarah Palin and Sandra Day O’Conner. Women are now a part of the Senate, House of Representatives, Supreme Court, and maybe one day there will be a female President (Me).

4. Although many women stuck with the stereotype fit for a woman in the 1930’s, many tried to fight through the controversy. There were women athletes, but most were unable to make a name. These women were able to spark a revolution for women.

5. Today there are many female athletes who have proven themselves. They win medals, defeat opponents, and get dirty doing so. These women do the same as men, but do not always have the same support or fan base like men do.

6. Women’s role back in the day were to stay home and care for the children. The men went to work to bring home the pay.

7. Today things have changed. Many women have been able to keep up with a career while still being a mom. The surprising thing is that some men have become stay-at- home dads.

8. Growing up is tough, because kids learn who they are and what they should be. In To Kill a Mockingbird Scout does not fit the stereotype that everyone wants her to be. She plays rough, is tough, and does not wear a dress.

9. Atticus has Aunt Alexandra try to bring up Scout but, she has a rebellious spirit. She does not like what she has to do to be a lady. 10. Jem shows a sensitive side throughout the book. Whenever he cries it is at home and never in public. Even today boys must try to fit into the stereotype of being tough and not sensitive.

11. People often just have to accept that people choose not to follow the stereotype they are given, but in the end your loved ones will accept you for who you are.

12. Through this presentation there was not meant to be a favoring of females, but most often they are the ones stereotyped. Men also go through this and those who choose to break down the barriers that are holding back in society. As a society, people must learn to accept and just as the song goes “What you can do I can do better…”
