2 Grammar NOUN –A naming word, person, place or object. house rose pencil bird

3 What is a plural? one cat two cats

4 Plural or Singular? one flower three flowers

5 Plural or Singular? one hat four hats

6 Plural A plural word is where we have more than 1 thing. –Singular = 1 –Plural = More than 1

7 Watch Out – Rules! There are lots of rules when changing words from singular to plural. BE CAREFUL! We are going to look at just two of the rules. LISTENING?

8 Adding ‘s’ For most words we just add ‘s’ to the end of it to change it into a plural. one applethree apples desk → desksmonth → months book → bookstrain → trains pen → pensname → names

9 Adding ‘es’ For others we need to add ‘es’ to change it to a plural. one brushtwo brushes box → boxesdish → dishes glass → glassesquiz → quizes

10 Rule! If the word ends with a long s sound or a hiss sound like; –sh –ch –ss »then add ‘es’ - s - x - z
