6 Health Expenditure and Financing in 2012 Health expenditure in Finland amounted to EUR 17.5 billion in 2012. Health expenditure increased in real terms by 0.4 per cent on the previous year (Figure 1). Per-capita expenditure amounted to EUR 3 229. Health care expenditure in relation to GDP increased by 0.1 percentage points on 2011 and was 9.1 per cent in 2012. Expenditure on specialised health care (EUR 6.3 billion) and primary health care (EUR 3.6 billion) together accounted for slightly over half of the total in 2012. Specialised health care expenditure increased by 1.6 per cent in real terms. Expenditure pharmaceuticals and other medical non-durables increased in real terms by 4.0 per cent. In 2012, public financing of health expenditure accounted for 75.2 per cent and private financing for 24.8 per cent.
