2 A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads were particularly characteristic of British and Irish popular poetry and song in the later medieval period.

3 The ballad derives its name from medieval French dance songs or "ballares" which is also called the French Ballade.

4 Ballads originate from Scandinavian and Germanic traditions of storytelling that can be seen in poems such as Beowulf.

5 We talked about scops in the epic story Beowulf in medieval times there were scops who performed ballads.

6 In twelfth century Europe, there was no television, no radio or recorded music, no computers or telephones, no newspapers or magazines. Ballads were the main source of Entertainment. bored
