2 Interviewing for employment and following up writing application letters and other employee messages: the purpose of the letter is to let the recruiter know what you are sending, why you are sending it, and how the company can benefit from it. sending your resume and the letter together is very important because each one has it own purpose. Planning, writing, and completing are the 3 step process to create attention for the application letter. Avoid general phrases like ‘’dear Sir’’ when you write the application. However you can be specific like ‘’Dear engineering manager. ’’ solicited application letter is the one wrote tin response to an announced job opening however the unsolicited one is totally the opposite. to sell your letter to the employer use AIDA, focus on the person whom going read the letter, show him the benefit that he or she going gain from the company Your opening paragraph should cover the reasons of why you writing this letter and get his or her attention to keep reading the letter Tips to help you write the cover letter : 1: avoid to be general ( try to be specific) 2: never talk about salary information 3: The letter should be organized ( 3 paragraph max) 4: make sure you present some personality in the letter because it will let the interviewer know you more 5: always write a high quality letter which will give good example of your professionalism

3 Interviewing for employment and following up Effective Solicited Application Letter : mention the reasons of writing and how you are familiar with the company qualification show your skills and how its going benefit you in the job, and show you understand the job’s responsibility talk about what have done so far and try to sell you resume to the reader ( mention you achievement) initiative ( ask for an interview) Effective Unsolicited Application letter: catch the reader attention by speaking directly about the readers' needs. show some of your personality quality. Talk about the company’s policy so you can get the reader’s interest. Never say ‘’YOU’ ’instead use ‘’I’’ Tips for getting attention in Unsolicited Application letter : show how the company is going gain from your strong skills. Explain to them that you understood the job requirement and how you are qualify to the job. Always ask question, that will give them imprison that you understand the company needs. it will benefit you if you use catchphrase opening if the job requires it and imagination. Tips for getting attention in Unsolicited Application letter : explain where you find out the job opening and what do you have to offer. Don’t bring up salary in you letter.

4 Interviewing for employment and following up Motivating Action: there are two functions in the final paragraph : 1: ask the reader for specific action to facilitate a reply 2: make the request easy by stating your phone number and the best time to reach you if you don’t have any respond with in a month, follow up with a second letter to keep your file active. be creative with your follow up letter by showing you add more skills to your resume and improvement Checklist: writing application letter. use specific language to clearly state your interests and objectives. create interest and desire in your potential contribution Show your education, experience, and personal qualities to the job requirements. Understanding the interviewing process: For the any organizations, the main objective of the interview is to find the best person that match with job description. For people whom looking for job, the objective is to find job that suit my goals.

5 Interviewing for employment and following up The typical sequence of interviews: Express yourself different than the other in the screening stage. sometimes in the selection stage, you may be interviewed with other people in the same time. At the end of the interview, you might see the interviewer try to get your attention that you got the job. panel interview is having several interviewers ask you questions during a single session. Common types of interviews: 1: Structured interviews (screen stage) : employee control the interview by asking questions. 2: Open- ended interview: less formal and unstructured. 3: group interview: meet with other candidates to see the interact. 4:stress interview: show how you handle yourself under pressure. 5: situational interview: to see how you would handle a specific set of situations. Interview Media: telephone interview is not less stress than the personal one, so you have to give your full attention. in virtual interview, always speak to the camera as you address something to someone in person. What employers look for in the interview: they are looking for good fit with organization, and if he or she can handle the responsibility. Personal background indicates how well he or she could be fit in.

6 Interviewing for employment and following up Reemployment Testing: Attempt to provide objective, quantitative information about candidate’s skills, attitudes, and habits. there are some tests that identify the job you are qualify to: integrity test-personality test-job skills tests-substance tests. There are 3 reason of why we have these kind tests: 1: to cut the costs 2: to reduce the number of accidents 3: to reduce legal liability for negligent hiring practices. Preparing for job interview: 1: learn about the organization 2: think ahead about the question 3:Be ready when you arrive 4: Bolster your confidence 5: polish your interview style 6: Plan to look Good Where to look and what you can learn: company website will give you overall information and also you can look for the competitors website as well Career center at your college might help you with some information about the company Blogs: criticism of the company.

7 Interviewing for employment and following up Planning for the Employer’s Questions: there are some questions that you have to give a thought before you answer it because it will give the interviewer a good view about you and what do you want 1: what was the hardest decision you ever had to take? 2: what are your greatest weaknesses? 3: what did you like about previous jobs you have held? practice answering these kind questions so that you can respond with confidence and complete answer. there are some questions that you could ask the interviewer that make you take decision of the job is completing you or not. 1: what are the job’s responsibilities? 2: how do you measure success for someone in this job? 3: why is this job now vacant? 4: what additional training does the company provide? people should find smooth way to ask the interviewer that they want to ask. Bolster your confidence: Building the confidence will make the whole process less stressful.

Nonverbal behavior has a significant effect on the interviewer's opinion of you. The way you speak is important as what you say. Plan to look good: The way of your appearance is very important because it express your personality. looking clean, prepare, and professional are the keys of success in any interview. page 620, there are 25 attributes that interviewer don’t like to see.

Some mistakes to avoid during the interview: being defensive. failing to ask questions. failing to answer question freezing up. failing to understood your potential to contribute to the organization. The question and answer stage: Let the interviewer lead the interview and never answer the question until he or she finish. tailor your questions to emphasize your strength. verbal and nonverbal messages can help you answer the question completely. The close: Research salary ranges in your job industry, and geographic region before you try to negotiate salary. Conclude the interview with courtesy and enthusiasm. negotiating benefits may be one way to get more value from an employment package Interview Notes:. Close on a confident –request a decision. Identify the position and introduce the main idea. The letter of acceptance: use the model of positive messages when you write the letter. confirm the specific terms that both parties agree about. clear explanation about the work. good finish with success future for both parties.

12 Interviewing for employment and following up Effective Request for a Time Extension: begins with a strong statement of the interest of the job. stress a professional obligation as the reason for the request. emphasize the reasons for preferring the first job offer to help. close with an expression of willingness to yield or compromise while conveying continued interest. Letter Declining a job offer: uses a buffer in the opening paragraph. Precedes the bad news with tactfully phrased reasons for the applicant’s unfavorable decision, and leaves the door open. don’t let the reader feel bad.

13 Interviewing for employment and following up Letter of resignation: it should be always be written in a gracious and professional style that avoids criticism of your employer. begin with an appreciative buffer. state your reason for leaving and actually state that you are resigning. Close cordially.
