2 Name:Rebecca Hoholski Subject:Digital Photography Grade Level & Age:Post-secondary and/or Adult learner, age 18 and up Topic Description:In Module One students will learn about the flow of the course, craft and post their introduction, create a Flickr account, learn how a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera works, and to begin taking photographs. Learning Theories:The theories that support the instructional strategy include constructivist, connectivism, and project-based learning. Lesson Title:Module One – Introduction & Getting Started + Components & Mechanics of DSLR Cameras Learning Objectives for Module One: Learners will demonstrate knowledge of the mechanics, internal components, and camera settings. Learners will experiment with, recall, and recognize DSLR camera settings including f-stops, ISO, depth of field, aperture, and shutter speed through a quiz and image assignment. Learners will construct an online photo gallery using Flickr.

7 Types of Cameras & Components Variety of cameras with different features, sizes and price points. Cameras have evolved from the single reflex lens (SLR) 35mm film camera to digital single reflex cameras (DSLR) and now the newer DSLR models have perfected the ability to record video. Be familiar with the background and capabilities of the SLR, DSLR, point-and-shoot and camera phones.SLRDSLR point-and-shootcamera phones This course will focus on making images with DSLR cameras. This knowledge of photography will translate if your point and shoot has capabilities to control ISO, aperture and shutter speed. DIG 101 : Intro to Digital Photography 6

8 Camera Components DSLR cameras internal components include: Lens elements, digital image sensor, rotating mirror, pentaprism, shutter, and eyepiece. External components include things like the LCD screen, shutter release button, on/off power dial, lens release button, flash, hot shoe, view finder, memory card slot, and dials or buttons to change the ISO, aperture, shutter speed, flash intensity, and white balance. Post one original image to the Introduction to Digital Photography group, located here. If you’d like more details on how to create your Flickr account, use this link for a short video. located herelink (4) Flickr: Locate on your camera the ISO, aperture and shutter speed on your specific camera. Decide on what you would like to take a photograph of. Set your camera on Manual (M) and using these settings: ISO 200, f2.8, 1/250. Press the shutter. Now take 3 photos of the same scene changing the ISO only from 200 to 400 to 800 to 3200. Reset the ISO to 200. Take 3 photos of the same scene changing only the f-stop (aperture) from f 2.8 to 8 to 11 to 22. Reset the f-stop to 2.8. Take 6 photos of the same scene changing the shutter speed from 1/250 to 1/500 to 1/1000 to 1/125 to 1/60 to 1 second to 2.5 seconds. You will have a total of 13 images. Add all images to your Flickr.com album titled “Module One” making note in Flickr on each image the camera settings – ISO, f stop/aperture and shutter speed.
