2 look When you look at something, you see it.

3 alike Two things are alike when they look almost the same. These socks are alike. They are the same size. They are the same shape. They have the same design. They are not the same color.

4 different Two things are different when they are not the same. This ice cream is different colors. They taste different.

5 body This is a body. A human body has a head, 2 arms and 2 legs. Animal bodies have different parts. These parts are called features.

6 feature Let’s take a look at some other features!
An animal can have different features. Some animals have tails. Some animals have legs. Some animals have a trunk. Legs, tails and a trunk are measure/us-standard-units- introduction.htmldifferent features. Name a feature of this animal: Let’s take a look at some other features!

7 mouth Most animals have a mouth. What do animals do with their mouth?

8 beak A beak is a special feature that most birds have.
What does a beak help a bird do?

9 paw Some animals have hands. Other animals have paws. They help animals walk on the ground or climb. Animals cannot use their paws to do things the way people can.

10 tail Some animals have a tail. What do tails do?
A whale uses his tail to change direction in the water. A kangaroo uses his tail to keep his balance while hopping. A monkey uses his tail to climb trees.

12 fur Many animals have fur. Fur helps an animal keep warm.
It helps some animals blend in.

13 feathers Birds have feathers. They help birds fly. They also help them stay warm. Can you name another bird with feathers? Can you name a bird that has feathers, but does not fly? An ostrich or a penguin

14 Scales Most reptiles have scales. They help an animal move. They also help an animal warm up or cool down.

16 back The back is at the end or behind something.
It is also part of the body. She is at the back of the line. This fish is jumping into the back of the boat. The bird is on the cow’s back.

17 He is at the front of the line.
The front is the beginning or before something. It is the opposite of the back. He is at the front of the line. He is in front of the volcano.

18 Something that is true or that you can prove.
facts Something that is true or that you can prove. The tree leaves turn yellow, red, orange and brown in fall. This is a fact. The tree leaves turn purple and blue. This is not a fact.

19 When you move something with your hands, you push it.

20 movement How something gets from one place to another by itself is called movement. What are the movements in these pictures?

21 swim How people and animals move through the water.
What other animals swim besides people, fish and tigers?

22 fly Most animals with wings move this way.
Do all animals with wings fly?

23 run This movement is faster than walking.
What animals do you know that can run? What animals cannot run?

24 climb When you are trying to get off of the ground or when you are trying to get somewhere higher. What animals must climb to be safe?

25 slide When you move from a higher place to a lower place.
When something is slippery. What animals may slide?

26 slither Animals that move across the ground quickly. They do not have feet.

27 scales A kind of covering. It looks like plates on an animals body.
What animals have scales?
