The Unforgivable Sin: Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

Great Crowds Follow Jesus  Jesus withdrew from the people to the sea and a great crowd of people followed him there.  Jesus healed many people, others with diseases are pressing up towards Jesus just to touch him.  When the evil spirits saw Jesus they fell down before him and cried out ‘You are the Son of God’

Jesus Calls the Twelve  Jesus goes up on the mountain and he calls twelve men to be his disciples, his apostles.  Those that Jesus called to him, came to him.  Then Jesus and his disciples went down the mountain to his home.  As soon as he got back, the crowds began to gather again, and they were so large that Jesus and his disciples could not even eat.

Jesus Faces Malicious Accusations The First Accusers : The biological family members of Jesus. The First Malicious Accusation : Jesus is out of his mind – he is insane.

Jesus Faces Malicious Accusations The Second Accusers: The scribes (teachers of the law) from Jerusalem. The Second Malicious Accusation: Jesus is possessed by the lord of all evil spirits and his power comes from Satan himself.

Jesus’ Masterful Responses First Response: A house or a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. Meaning of the Parable: If Jesus power comes from Satan then Satan is divided against himself and his kingdom will not stand.

Jesus’ Masterful Responses Second Response: No one can break into a strong man’s house and steal his goods unless he first binds the strong man. Meaning of the Parable: Since Jesus has freed those in captivity to demons he must have first overpowered Satan in order to do so.

The Unforgivable Sin – What Did Jesus Actually Say? 1)All sins will be forgiven except one. 2)The sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will Not be forgiven – it is an eternal sin.

The Unforgivable Sin is NOT: 1.The unforgivable sin is not committed through a one-time act. 2.The unforgivable sin is not committed unknowingly.

The Unforgivable Sin:  It is the willful, ongoing, continual rejection of the witness of the Holy Spirit to the divinity and humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ, resulting in a hardened heart towards Christ’s redemptive work on our behalf.

The Path To The Unforgivable Sin 1)When we ascribe the divine power of God’s Holy Spirit as being the work of Satan. 2)When we falsely ascribe our own power or Satan’s power as being the divine power of God’s Holy Spirit. 3)When we fail to biblically discern what is of the Spirit and what is not.
