1 “A business that turns people into things to be bought and sold, is immoral”. “Paying unjust salaries, that are not enough to live on, is stealing”. “An approach to business that makes profit the only motive, is immoral” These quotes come from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. What is “immoral” or “wrong” about the situations? Do you agree? Summarise why doing business just for profit could be wrong.

2 Some people say business and religion should not mix. Business just is about making money. Others say that good business means being fair to others in the way you make money. So Christians try and -Stay informed about companies that produce goods unethically - boycott/ campaign against them eg sweat shops making clothes or trainers in Asia where working 12 hr shifts for very little money. eg Apple was charging its employees in Asia a “binding fee” before they could get work there, and which they had to repay. Now stopped. -Buy products which have a certificate showing that they are made under good working conditions eg Fairtrade logo -Campaign the governments in the West to pay and guarantee good prices to producers in poorer countries, who have no other means of earning a living “Trade Justice”. FairTrade: fighting economic injustice 1.Explain what “economic exploitation” means. Give examples. 2.How do Christians try to stop economic exploitation? 3 ways. **Do you think it is important to do business fairly, even if it means less profits? Why? *Draw the Fairtrade logo Exploitation: to use another person for your benefit, at the expense of that person (Economic - for a financial profit)

3 Christians should support Fairtrade.’ What do you think? Explain your opinion. 3mks
