1 MARVIN GAYE By: Anyae Harris, J’Marria Franklin, Amya Clark, and Zoria Ozier

2 EARLY LIFE Marvin Pentz Gay Jr. was born to Alberta Gay on April 2 nd,1939 in Washington D.C. He joined a co founded local doo wop group called the Marquees, who were spotted by Harvey Fuqua, who made them his new Moonglows. He then went on tour with them and stayed. Then He was signed by Motown just based raw singing talent.

3 SINGING CAREER Marvin Gaye had many hit sings. He singed jazz and R&B. His hits include “Stubborn Kind Of Fellow”~1962. The incendiary “Hitch Hike”, “Pride and Joy”, also “Can I Get Witness”. It sold like crazy in 1963. As years passed he made more hits like “ I Heard It through The Grapevine. He also had duets with Mary Wells, Kim Weston, and his ultimate singing partner Tammi Terrell. He soon became recognized as one well artist.

4 DEATH On April 1 st 1984,one day before his 45 th birthday, Marvin and his father had a argument that led to a tragedy. He was shot twice. Marvin and his father didn’t really have a good relationship. Some say his father was jealous of Marvin’s singing career.

5 AFTER LIFE Marvin influence reaches across many generations. He was rightfully among only the second group of artists honored with induction onto the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987. Most recently, Marvin was No. 6 on Rolling Stones list of the 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time.
