17 Reasons for Taking Part in Physical Activities
Co-operation Competition For a physical challenge Aesthetic appreciation Development of friendship and social mixing.

18 Cooperation People like / want to be part of a team and enjoy the social benefits this creates. Working in groups helps to improve teamwork and cooperation which are often vital not just in sports like rugby and netball; but also in everyday life. This encourages performers to support, look after and encourage team-mates.

19 Competition People like the atmosphere and emotion that can only be produced within a competitive situation. Competition can be thought of as psychological (mental) both in terms of the preparation required and the getting away from the stresses of everyday life. When competing people often put aside their problems to focus and concentrate for doing well in their sport.

20 For a Physical Challenge
People take part in sport to challenge themselves both physically and mentally. Often people come back to a sport which they have not done for a long period of time (e.g. since school, they have been injured). Some people really push themselves to get better and develop in a sport or activity.

21 Aesthetic Appreciation
Movements in sport are sometimes seem as elegant and thinks of beauty. Often it is the observer who appreciates the performer although the performer often knows through feeling if something has been done correctly. Examples: hitting the perfect cover drive, scoring an excellent goal.

22 Development of Friendship and Social Mixing
Taking part in sport means involvement with other people which includes fellow participates, coaches and officials. Participates often get to know more people, make new friends and develop lasting friendships. Training alone can be quite lonely and requires a lot of discipline and motivation, whereas being part of a club / team helps people to mix socially, helping them to motivate themselves as they do not want to let their friends down.

You have 20 minutes Task Using the exam criteria for the four questions you have just done mark your work, making sure you correct any mistakes you have made.
