Gospel Preaching Why do we spend half of our time each Lord’s Day listening to preaching?

Gospel Preaching 1 Corinthians 1:18-30 “…it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe…”

Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word Acts 2:42 (NKJV) And they continued steadfastly in and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word Acts 20:7 (NKJV) Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul…. Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul… spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.

Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word 1 Cor. 14:26 (NKJV) How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

2 Timothy 3:16-4:5 (3:16) (3:16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (4:1) I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: (2) PREACH the WORD! Be ready in season and

2 Timothy 3:16-4:5 out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. (3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; (4) and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (5) But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Gospel Preaching Biblical preaching proclaims and explains the TRUTH of GOD so that it may deeply affect our SPIRIT and impel us to respond in humble praise, adoration and obedience. WORSHIP! John 4:23-24

The task of the sermon each week is not only to teach sound doctrine, but also to help us focus on a fresh picture of why God is the all-satisfying Treasure of our lives. Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word

 His infinite power and glory in creation;  His Word, that upholds the universe and keeps all the atoms & molecules together;  His knowledge, that makes the Library of Congress look like a matchbox;  His wisdom, that has never been and never will be counseled by men;  His providence, in which not a bird falls to the ground without his awareness;  His authority over heaven and earth, without whose permission the devil can’t make a move; Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word

 His triumphs past, present, and future, over sin and death and hell and Satan;  His purity never to sin;  His power to walk on water, cleanse lepers, heal the lame, open the eyes of the blind, cause the deaf to hear, still storms with a word, and raise the dead;  His trustworthiness never to break His word or let one promise fall to the ground;  His justice to render all accounts settled, either in hell or by the blood of Christ; Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word

 His patience, to endure the dullness of our hearts and our arrogance;  His endurance, to embrace the excruciating pain and sorrow of the cross willingly;  His wrath, that will one day cause many to cry out for the rocks and the mountains to fall on them;  His grace, that justifies the ungodly through the blood of the Lamb;  His love, that led His Son to die for us even while we were sinners. Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word

Example Matt. 13:44 – “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.” We learn that we must see everything else as worthless compared to the surpassing value of the kingdom of heaven. But is there more to learn? Didn’t Jesus also want us to see that it was JOY that drove this man? Hebrews 12:3 Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word

Example Phil. 1:20-21 – “…Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Yes, if death were to take away all that I love in this life, death would still be gain. But also…IN THIS LIFE, Christ brings me a satisfaction so deep that, no matter the circumstances, I will MAGNIFY HIM in my body. Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word

This is the task of preaching: To proclaim the Glories of Jesus Christ… …as God has Revealed them. Worshipping God Through Preaching & Hearing His Word

Gospel Preaching Matthew 9:35-38 “pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest”

Will You Become A Christian? Hear the Gospel (Rom. 10:17) Believe that Jesus is the Son of God (Mk. 16:16) Repent of Your Sins (Acts 17:30) Confess Jesus as Lord (Rom. 10:9-10) Be Baptized for Forgiveness of Sins (Acts 2:38) Live Faithfully until You Die (Rev. 2:10)
