16. New Jersey Devils zpět na obsah The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in East Rutherford, New Jersey. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Devils have won the Stanley Cup three times, first in the lockout- shortened 1995 season. The club was founded in Kansas City, Missouri in 1974, moved to Denver, Colorado after only two seasons, then settled in New Jersey in 1982. Under current general manager Lou Lamoriello, the Devils have earned a playoff spot in each of the last nine seasons. Since their move to New Jersey, the Devils have played their home games at the Continental Airlines Arena. In 2007, the team is expected to move to a new arena under construction in the city of Newark. They have rivalries with their trans-Hudson neighbor, the New York Rangers, and with the Philadelphia Flyers, as either the Devils or Flyers have won the Atlantic Division title every season since 1995.

This is unique among New York City's major league sports teams; Major League Baseball's New York Yankees and New York Mets are in different leagues although they play more now due to interleague competition, and the National Football League's New York Jets and New York Giants are in different conferences, giving them little opportunity to play each other. This allows the Rangers to maintain a great rivalry between NYC area teams.

19. Philadelphia Flyers zpět na obsah The city of Philadelphia had been home to an NHL team before for one season; the Philadelphia Quakers during the 1930-31 NHL season. They suspended operations for the next and subsequent seasons until they finally cancelled the franchise in 1936. Philadelphia would have to wait another 30 years for the NHL to return when in 1966, the league awarded an expansion franchise to the city. Flyers was the name chosen for the new franchise as it conveyed the motion and excitement that was to be consistent with both hockey in general, as well as the new Philadelphia club. With this idea in mind the now familiar stylized P containing an orange hockey puck with four wings coming off the back was chosen to be the team's logo.

Unfortunately, World War II decimated the Bruins worse than most teams.

They played their home games in Jubilee Rink, Montreal Westmount Arena, Mount Royal Arena and the Montreal Forum before that.

Despite defeating the heavily favoured Devils in the opening round, the Senators' lack of depth and experience was easily exposed in the second round against the team that became that season's Stanley Cup runner-up, the Washington Capitals, who quickly disposed of the Sens in five mostly one-sided games.
