2. What is it? Did you know that a Company called RES plans to build between 9-11 Wind Turbines on the land known as Chislet Marshes? These turbines will be a minimum of 125 metres tall? 3. What Villages are Affected? Sarre Marshside St Nicholas at Wade Chislet And pretty much anyone else up to several miles away !!! 3

4. Where will it be? Nearest House- less than 1000m away ! Land Owned by the Church Commissioners and St Nicholas Court Land Designated site of nature conservation interest Land Designated area of High Landscape Value Over 200 constraints of land- flood risk area 4

5. These turbines are huge !!! Same size (minimum) as the London Eye ! 5

6. What do the Government say? They say we don’t need any more onshore wind farms! Energy and Climate Change Secretary Amber Rudd said: “We have a long-term plan to keep the lights on and our homes warm, power the economy with cleaner energy, and keep bills as low as possible for hard-working families. “As part of our plan, we are committed to cutting our carbon emissions by fostering enterprise, competition, opportunity and growth. We want to help technologies stand on their own two feet, not encourage a reliance on public subsidies. “So we are driving forward our commitment to end new onshore wind subsidies and give local communities the final say over any new windfarms. Onshore wind is an important part of our energy mix and we now have enough subsidised projects in the pipeline to meet our renewable energy commitments”. DECC 18.06.15 6

The UK is one of the most energy secure countries in the world Large scale wind farm applications (those over 50MW) are currently determined by me - the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change - through the planning regime. It’s right that local people should have the power to decide whether they want a wind farm in their area, so we’re devolving powers out of Whitehall. My existing consenting powers in relation to onshore wind will transfer to local planning authorities, making decisions on energy more democratic and giving our communities a direct say on these planning decisions. 8. What does the Prime Minister say? He says let local communities decide ! At Prime Minister’s questions; The Prime Minister:. “that we have had a huge increase in renewable energy right across the United Kingdom in recent years. We have removed some of the subsidy from onshore wind—we are going to reach 10% of our electricity generation from onshore wind—so now it is right that it should be for local communities to make that decision.” 8

9. Reasons to be concerned about this Wind Farm ! Damage to Landscape Character and Visual Impact Damage to the Local Economy Impact on Nature Conservation Damage to Cultural Heritage Living conditions nearby, including Noise (and low frequency noise) and other pollution (i.e Turbine Flicker) The Cumulative impact with other similar developments (we already have the worlds largest off-shore wind farm on Thanet Flats) 9

10. Environmental Disaster ! Yes this picture was taken on the marshes last week. Who will protect them? Chislet Marshes are : 1) an important area for farmland birds 2)an arable area supporting SPA species 3)a migration pathway between Stodmarsh NNR and the Thanet Coast SSSI 4) within the SSSI Risk Zone These turbines kill wildlife Each turbine will mean thousands of tonnes of concrete poured into a flood risk area. 10
