2 WHAT IS A CIVIL ENGINEER? Definition Used to be the same thing as architects. They are responsible for most bridges, roads, water systems, etc. Take the environment into account when designing a structure. Daily tasks range from designing a structure on the computer, to surveying an area for future structures.

4 WHAT EDUCATION IS REQUIRED TO PURSUE THIS CAREER? A high school diploma A bachelor’s degree from an accredited program You must Take chemistry, physics, and advanced mathematics courses Classes of CAD software or equivelent Major requirements include advanced courses such as thermodynamics and structural analysis.

5 PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must complete professional engineering state licensing requirements which is only valid in the state were you work under that license (which vary by state). It is possible to have many licenses from various states which will give you the right to work on projects in any state which you have a license To be a certified professional engineer you must complete four years of work experience and pass two exams by the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering 12+ years of experience with at least 5 years of significant project/contract management experience Professional Engineer Certification required, ability to obtain P.E. in Wyoming within 6 months of hire date Civil engineering experience in projects involving a major percentage of the following: slope stability, soil bearing capacity, drainage, concrete pad design, storm water / surface water, oil and gas permitting and compliance, geotechnical investigations Comprehensive experience designing significant civil or environmental projects and monitoring construction operations Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients and employees at all levels of an organization Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills with attention to detail and a high quality of work in a pressure environment with multiple projects occurring simultaneously Strong project management, data interpretation, and technical writing skills Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, disciplines, and experts including senior management, clients, and other departments
