1 Brakes

2 Brakes List two types of brake systems:
- Disk brakes and Drum brakes….

3 Brakes What is hydraulics?
- The science of liquids under pressure. Liquids can not be compressed. Perfect for brakes as well as other applications, such as hydraulic lifters.

4 Brakes List the main automotive brake parts.
- Linings, drums or rotors, brake fluid, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, or calipers, hydraulic lines.

5 Brakes Explain what a brake booster does?
- Assists the driver by increasing the force applied by the master cylinder when the brake is opperated.

6 Brakes What does ABS stand for? - Anti-lock braking system

7 Brakes - ECU, wheel speed sensors and hydraulic modulator…
List three main parts of the ABS brake system: - ECU, wheel speed sensors and hydraulic modulator…

8 Brakes How are disc brakes adjusted?
- Disc brakes are adjusted by the movement of the rotors.

9 Brakes What do you do first, to remove a rotor?
- You have to remove the caliper first.

10 Brakes What happens if you step on the brake pedal when the brake system is apart? - Never do this, it will damage the calipers and wheel cylinders.

11 Brakes When checking brakes, what do you look for?
- Look for lining thickness and leaks.

12 Brakes How full do you fill the plastic container on top of the master cylinder? - To the full line after the brake job is done.

13 Brakes What is done in a basic brake job?
- Rotors and drums are replaced or resurfaced and the linings are replaced.

14 Brakes How and why do you check the brakes?
- If you hear a noise when applying the brakes, you should remove the wheels to inspect the brakes.

15 Brakes After replacing brakes on a wheel, what is the first thing you do before working on the next wheel and before the vehicle is moved? - Pump the brakes until they feel solid.
