1 ET: What is a creation story. What are myths. What are they used for
ET: What is a creation story? What are myths? What are they used for? (3-5 sentences) Creation Stories LT: I can compare and contrast ideas in creation stories from different cultures

2 Creation Stories Mythologies are stories that cultures used (and still use) to explain the world around them. Often there is a higher power or force that is involved with creating the world! This explains such things as why there are seasons, elements, water, sky, the earth, etc. Essentially it’s the idea of how the earth came to be in existence Usually how humans came to be as well!

3 Egyptian Creation Story
Watch the creation story of ancient Egypt. Take bubble map notes of what started the creation of the universe and then what was triggered and developed because of it. In your journal Egyption Creation Story Video

4 What happened? (With a partner – in your journals)
Write a list (in order) of the events in the Egyptian Creation Myth. What different aspects of the world/universe did the story explain? How do you think ancient Egyptians used this myth to help guide their life?

5 Graphic Organizer In partners, complete the first column of the graphic organizer about the Egyptian creation story. Be ready to share with the whole class!

6 With a partner… Read two creation stories from the cultures below:
China, Greece, Iroquois, Judeo-Christian, Mayan 1. Create a flow chart of the major events for each of the creation stories. (in your journals) 2. Complete the graphic organizer for each of the stories. 3. Discuss (and take notes in your journal): What do the 3 creation stories have in common? What is unique about the individual stories? What overarching themes are similar between the 3 creation stories?

7 Whole Class Discussion…
