5 The maxim of the Five Ws (and one H) is that in order for a report to be considered complete it must answer a checklist of six questions, WWWWho? Who was involved? WWWWhat? What happened (what's the story)? WWWWhen? When did it take place? WWWWhere? Where did it take place? WWWWhy? Why did it happen? HHHHow? How did it happen?

6 from Wikipedia accessed 15/06/09 The "Five Ws" (and one H) were written about by Rudyard Kipling I keep six honest serving-men (They taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When And How and Where and Who.

7 What’s clever about this technique?  Each question should elicit a factual answer  Importantly, none of these questions can be answered with a simple "yes" or "no".  In the context of the "news style" the five Ws are types of facts that should be contained in the "lead" or first two or three paragraphs of the story,
