61. 61 40+ years of LGBT Rights 2003 – Sexual Offences Act repeals Gross Indecency Law, which had been used to target gay men. 2004 – Gender Recognition Act gives trans people over 18 legal recognition of their acquired gender 2004 – Civil Partnerships Act gives registered civil partners most of the same rights and responsibilities as married couples 2005 – s 146 Criminal Justice Act 2003 empowers courts to impose tougher sentences for offences aggravated or motivated by victim’s sexual orientation

62. 40+ years of LGBT Rights 2006 – Equality Act 2006 Part 3 Introduces legislation to address Discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation which includes defining discrimination and harassment and legislation to protect citizens against discrimination and inequality. 2008 – Criminal Justice and Immigration Act Part 74, Schedule 16 Hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation amends Part 3A of the Public Order Act 1986 (c. 64) (hatred against persons on religious grounds) to make provision about hatred against a group of persons defined by reference to sexual orientation
