4 Steering Committee The JASI Steering committee is a representative of the JASI community. The committee - Name

5 JASI MARC record standards Important Term definitions Field - A group of items that contains similar information and is related (title field, author field, etc). Tag – A three-digit number assigned to each field (245 for title, 100 for author, etc). Indicator – The first two character positions that supplement the field’s data. Each indicator is independent and has different meanings for various tags. A blank indicator means either “undefined” or “no information provided”. Subfield – Holds information which allows for further division of field data. Leader - The leader consists of the first 24 character positions in the MARC record.

7 JASI MARC record - Brief A brief MARC record is a minimal record containing only the bare minimum of information. 020 – ISBN 100 – Personal Author 245 – Title 260 - Publication Information

8 JASI MARC record - Template A template is the desired fields for a good MARC record. In addition to the Brief minimum a Template record would include: 082 - Dewey Class Number 110 - Corporate Author 300 - Physical description 440 - Series Title 500 - General Note

10 JASI MARC record - Full The Full MARC record adds the following tags to the Template: 111 - Conference Author 130 - Uniform title 240 - Uniform Title 250 - Edition 410 - Series 411 – Series

16 Title Record Bibliographic Entries This portion of the record is available to all JASI members. Any changes to this portion of the record transcends to all libraries.

17 Call Number or Volume The Call number entry will contain the Library’s Call number, Library Name, and Class scheme.

18 Item On the Item portion you will locate the Item ID, Item Type and an image of the barcode. It is common to have multiple copies of the same title at a single library, therefore a library may have multiple entries at this level. It is important to remember that each item format has a different ISBN and each item entry must have a unique ISBN entered.
