8 DIGITEL MPC Reliability
Transformer Design Transformer based power supplies radiate less electrical noise and require less shielding than switching supplies. Switching supplies rely on high frequency capacitor charging to amplify the voltage, creating noise, possibly interference. Quality Manufacturing & Design Good, reliable HV designs are difficult, building a switching power supply increases difficulty and takes many more components (10X a transformer HV section). With more components the reliability is reduced. Field Tested Operation

15 SAFE-CONN SAFE-CONN is a parallel, isolated 5 volt circuit that enables / disables HV. The connection order (Ground, HV pin, then HV enable) and dis-connection order (HV enable, HV pin, then ground) is important in the design. The +5V is isolated to eliminate interference of HV transients and HV shorting to the SAFE-CONN circuitry.
