Output Devices… What are they? A Web Quest for Form 3 on Output Devices By: Ms S Bonanno

Introduction Your big brother is just about to open a large computer store where he will be selling a variety of computing hardware. Given that you are a Computing student, your brother is asking you to help him out so that he will familiarize himself with the several devices that will be sold at in his shop. This of course, will help you gain some extra pocket money as that is what your brother promised in return. Unfortunately, you feel that you do not know that much on computing hardware. Thus you need to do some research on the different computer devices, mainly about output devices and their uses.

The Task In order to become competent enough with output devices, you need to follow the below tasks: 1.First, you need to define the term output device. 2.Then, you will be looking at some websites that talk all about output devices. As you read through the websites, you will be asked to write down information about one output device. This task is to be done in groups of two or three students, where each team will be given a separate output device to work on, according to the following list: Team 1: VDU/Monitor Team 2: Dot-matrix printer Team 3: Inkjet printers Team 4: Laser printer Team 5: Plotter Team 6: LCD projectors Team 7: Audio output (speakers, headphones)

The Process (1) Before we actually begin, it is important for you to realize that there are three roles to successfully accomplish this task: DATA COLLECTOR – the person who will be responsible for collecting information about the topic. The person will then pass on the information to the Data Analyst. DATA ANALYST – will have to choose the best and the most necessary information about your output device. ADMINISTRATOR – after the Data Analyst has chosen the best information, the Administrator will have to produce a presentation which will contain the necessary information together with pictures and/or videos on the output device which you team has been assigned. For this task to be accomplished in the right manner, you must work together as one team! Roles must be shared and you must help each other! ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL!!!

The Process (2) Part 1: To begin, you need to get familiar with some basic computer vocabulary. Define the term "Output Devices" You can utilize the resources below to find the definition of the term: -Teach ICT DefinitionTeach ICT Definition -BBC Bitesize DefinitionBBC Bitesize Definition -Revision World DefinitionRevision World Definition -What 2 Learn DefinitionWhat 2 Learn Definition

The Process (3) Part 2: Also, using the resources given as well as other sites, find the following information: Identify the device Give a brief account of how the device works List down its advantages List down its disadvantages State the applications of the device - where it is used

The Process (4) Part 3: The final part of this web quest is putting all your information into a creative presentation. You must have a minimum of 5 slides, one for each of the bullet points given in Part 2 above. Do not forget to include pictures. You would gain extra points if you include a short video clip showing how the device you are researching on works. NOTE: Information should NOT be copied directly from the internet, but it must be put into your own words. COPYING and PASTING will give you a ZERO mark.

Evaluation (1) Beginning 1 Developing 2 Accomplished 3 Exemplary 4 Score Team Work There was no cooperation between team members. No one took responsibility for the work. Only one member was responsible for the work. There were many group disagreements. Team members shared roles and responsibility. However, there were times in which one member did not cooperate with the rest. Team members shared responsibility and each contributed equally to the activity. Disagreements were immediately resolved.

Evaluation (continued) Beginning 1 Developing 2 Accomplished 3 Exemplary 4 Score Presentation of work The presentation is of poor quality. Only one team member showed enough motivation. The presentation is of fairly good quality. It was clear that work was not the students’ own work. The presentation is of good quality. It showed creativity and initiative. The presentation is of high quality where all the team members used their talents as much as possible. Correct information & research Information presented showed no research at all. There was basic information about the device. There was proper information and images about the given device. There was proper information about the device. The students also found videos showing how the device works.

ConclusionCongratulations!! You have accomplished the given task!! Well Done!! =)
