 With your group, create a list of Scientific Questions. Try to write as many different types of questions as possible.

Investigation Types O Field Study O Systematic Observation O Controlled Investigation O Model or Simulation

Field Study O The field study asks about the relationship between two variables that are generally not manipulated, or controlled, by the researcher. How does rainfall affect the number of trees on the Savanna? How does current speed affect river bank erosion?

Systematic Observation O The researcher recognizes and documents some fact or occurrence in the natural world. What types of rocks are found in this area? What wildlife can be found in this ecosystem?

Controlled Investigation O The experimental question includes a manipulated and a responding variable. What is the relationship between temperature and melting time? What is the relationship between amount of water and the time it takes a bean seed to germinate?

Model or Simulation O Using a simplified representation of a system to better understand how the system functions. How does the water cycle impact ground water?

 Look at your list that you created with your group of Scientific Questions.  Categorize the list you just created into the following groups:  Field study  Model or simulations  Systematic observation  Controlled Investigation  If you are missing examples of some of the categories above then add a two questions for each category you are missing.
