The Power of the Gospel

1.The Gospel is for everyone 2.The Gospel must grab our hearts 3.The Gospel shows us who we are 4.The Gospel means we are dead to ourselves and alive in Christ

The Gospel is for Everyone

“The Gospel is not just a gate we must pass through one time, but a path we should walk each day of our lives” – Steve Childers

Martin Luther The gospel is a story about Christ, God’s and David’s son, who died and was raised, and is established as Lord

Timothy Keller Through the person and work of Jesus Christ, God fully accomplished salvation for us, rescuing us from judgment for sin into fellowship with him, and then restores the creation in which we can enjoy our new life together with him forever

N.T. Wright The gospel is the royal announcement that the crucified and risen Jesus, who died for our sins and rose again according to the Scriptures, has been enthroned as the true Lord of the world. When this gospel is preached, God calls people to salvation, out of sheer grace, leading them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ as the risen Lord

John 3:16-21 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God

The Gospel is a message of love: the good news of Jesus’ life, His death and His resurrection, that fulfills scripture. The Gospel carries the power to save us, to make our relationship right with God, whilst also carrying the power to transform us to better reflect Christ.

The Gospel must grab our hearts

He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree, bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy. When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory, and I realize just how beautiful you are, and how great your affections are for me.

God is jealous for all of our hearts because He knows that what’s best for us is Himself and he longs to be in a Father and child relationship with us

Idols are people or things we worship that steals away our affection from God Celebrities, Fame Wealth Food, drink Family Children Relationships Success Careers Health Television Computer games

The Gospel shows us who we are

Transformed by realising: We are forgiven and no longer slaves to sin We are accepted We are adopted into God’s family We are not alone

The Gospel means we are dead to ourselves and alive in Christ

Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
