What is PRINCE2™? Formerly known as PRINCE (and PROMPT before that!) Introduced by central government because high profile project failures were too common Owned by Office of Government Commerce –Launched in 1996 –Currently in its 4th edition (2005) –Next version in development (2009) It is a method for managing projects It is part of OGC’s PPRM portfolio

OGC’s PPRM Products

Recent Additions For Successful Project Management: Think PRINCE2 –An affordable introductory, practical guide to PRINCE2. –Official beginners guide written by practitioners provides a real view on PRINCE2, from a government organisation, private sector and not-for-profit global organisation perspective.

Recent Additions Agile Project Management: Running PRINCE2 Projects with DSDM Atern –Based on PRINCE2 and DSDM, the two most established and internationally recognised project management approaches, this title explores the differences between the two approaches before showing where they overlap and how they can be integrated.

Recent Additions Improving Project Performance Using the PRINCE2™ Maturity Model –Practical advice on how P2MM can be used: The help implement PRINCE2 (first time users) To re-invigorate/enhance existing PRINCE2 implementations To help organisations improve their project performance by going beyond training and templates (i.e. overcoming the issue of PRINCE in Name Only - PINO) As a benchmark to assess organisational capability, plan improvements and measure the improvements For organisational accreditation

Ten Years of PRINCE2™ 1. More than 250,000 practitioners world-wide 2. There are more than 20 User Groups around the world 3. There are more than 120 accredited training & consulting organisations 4. There are more than 50 software tools supporting PRINCE2™ 5. Training courses available in more than 17 languages 6. It is used on all 7 continents 7. It is used by the private sector as much as the public sector 8. It is used on all types of projects (construction, change, technology) 9. It is the most widely used method (more than 1.6m pages on www) 10. Used on its own it doesn’t guarantee successful projects

Public Consultation The feedback showed a general consensus for change: –Reduce the size of the manual and improve the style of language (more guidance less instruction) –Make it more accessible (for example by embracing new media) –Integrate with other OGC products –Show linkage to other methods and bodies of knowledge –Provide more guidance on scaling and tailoring (particularly for smaller projects) –Include (or reference) the soft aspects of Project Management (e.g. people management, change management, ‘fuzzy’ initiation) –Training/qualifications should focus on the application of PRINCE2 rather than knowledge of PRINCE2
