4 eLearning Initiative(s) Opportunities & Challenges “Our Students have changed radically. Today’s students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach.” --- Marc Prensky “Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants, 2001 2009 was a year of change

5 Provost’s eFellows Program 2010 – 3 courses (pilot) 2011 – 5 courses (pilot) 2012 – 1 course (compressed for 2013 expansion launch) 2013 – 12 courses (3 program tiers introduced) 2014 – 11 courses 2015 – 11 courses eFellows Program – Established to provide year-long, focused support for faculty to develop courses that use best practices for blended and online learning. Includes CyberEd course for essential concepts; and establishes cohort for peer support. eLearning Community of Practice (CoP) – Established (2010) to extend the eFellows support model to faculty interested in applying these practices to courses, in smaller scale, at their own pace.

7 eFellows Program Tiers Tier 1 Advanced Course Redesign for Blended/Online – Awards are up to $5,000. Projects include ‘whole course’ redesign to a blended or online mode Tier 2 Partial CourseRedesign – Awards are up to $2,000. Course redesign projects with smaller scope, targeting specific course aspects, but which could eventually lead to a whole course redesign over time. Tier 3 Building Blocks for Course Redesign – workshop designed to build basic elements of a course

9 Program Participation Requirements Collaborate with Instructional Design Team Complete Building Blocks for Course Redesign Workshop Engage with peers in the eLearning Community of Practice (eCoP) Use eLearning best practices outlined by the S&T Blended/Online Course Development Guide Provide mentoring for next eFellows cohort Opportunity – Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

10 Timeline: Important Dates April 24 th - Letter of Intent Due ~consult with EdTech staff~ June 12 th - Full Program Applications Due July/August - Awards announced Then the work begins!

11 Application Requirements Tier 1 – Advanced Course Redesign for Blended/Online Project is a “whole course redesign” Follows the Missouri S&T Blended/Online Course Development Guide Proposal submitted/accepted at beginning of program cycle

12 Application Requirements Tier 2 – Partial Course Redesign Project is smaller scope redesign, targeting specific course aspects, but intend to eventually lead to a whole course redesign over time Follows the Missouri S&T Blended/Online Course Development Guide Proposal submitted/accepted at one of 2-3 calls for participation during program cycle

13 Application Requirements Tier 3 – Building Blocks for Course Redesign Working Session 5 hours Complete building blocks Stipend provided MUST MUST complete before funds are distributed for Tier 1 or Tier 2 award

14 General Evaluation Criteria Evidence the project will enhance teaching and learning Project is part of a plan to redesign a sequence of courses, degree or certificate program and is consistent with campus and departmental priorities Commitment of funds or other resources from the department Strength of project team (e.g., course development expertise, use of educational technology, commitment to excellence in teaching) Number of students impacted Evidence that success can be expected Increased efficiency in the use of faculty and/or staff time Increased efficiency of scheduled classroom space Collaboration with other department(s) or campus
