Lesson 5 What Must I do to be Saved?

2 INTRODUCTION “What Must I do to be Saved?” This is the most important question that a person can ask or should ask. The answer to this question determines one's eternal destiny. It is a question that has been asked over and over again, both in the Bible and by many today. In this Lesson we will be seeking to give Biblical answers to this important question, as we study the true condition of the sinner and what has been done and what must be done for the sinner to have eternal life.

3 1. How does the Bible describe the condition of those who are living without Christ in this world? 4 NOTE: Because of the sinful nature that we inherit from Adam, all men are born separated from God. Therefore, without Christ, all men are by nature sinful and stand guilty before God.

5 2. What is the ultimate consequence of sin? Romans 6:23

6 NOTE: Death is the ultimate punishment for sin. This death refers to eternal separation from God, which the wicked will experience at the last day (see Revelation 20:14, 15). No one has already experienced this kind of death, except for Jesus, who suffered the true consequence for sin on the cross.

8 NOTE: No. Sin is as much a part of our nature as the spots in the leopard's body and the color of the Ethiopian's skin (Psalm 51:5). Therefore, there is nothing that man can do (of himself) to be made righteous.

12 NOTE: Because the sinner could do nothing to save himself, Jesus, the Son of God, decided to take our guilt upon Himself; died in our place and offer to us salvation as a gift.

14 NOTE: We can only be saved by exercising our faith to believe and accept the gift of salvation that Jesus has made available to us.

18 NOTE: Believe that Jesus died to take away your sins and that He is willing to forgive you of all your sins and to accept you as His child.

20 NOTE: Confess your sins to God. Acknowledge the wrongs that you have done and ask for His forgiveness (see also Proverbs 28:13).

22 NOTE: Repent of all your sins. Repentance involves being sorry for your sins, taking a decision not to continue your life of sin, taking measures to put away sinful practices and choosing to live your life wholly consecrated to God (see Isaiah 1:16-18; Acts 2:38).

24 NOTE: Accept the rite of baptism as a public expression of your faith in Jesus Christ and your renouncing the sinful ways of the world and continue to maintain your connection with God by faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to His word.
