Child labor in India By : Tanis

The number of children involved ▪ It is difficult to monitor the current number of children engaged in child labour. This is because the Indian Government does not collect or analyze current data regarding child labour. Collecting information is difficult because people know child labour is against the law and they do not want to get into trouble (Devi 1985, 37). Many official figures continue to be based on information gathered in 1981 (HRW 1996, 122). UNICEF estimates that there may be “from seventy-five to ninety million child labourers under the age of fourteen” (HRW 1996, 122)

Difference between child labor in India industrial revolution vs present day Present dayIndustrial revolutionTotal 90 millionOver 200millionThere is an 110million difference between the industrial revolution and present day, which proves that child labor has gone down 110 million in the past 200 years

Lush products and beauty products ▪ Lush products believe it or not have mica in it which gives some of the products the glittery shine ▪ Presented with this evidence, British cosmetic brand Lush, which uses mica from India in its handmade products, was shocked. "That's appalling," says co-founder Rowena Bird. "I became aware of this issue a few years ago, which is why we require our suppliers to issue a certificate declaring that its mica production is free of forced labour of all kinds. Of course, such declarations are based on trust, but now that this issue has been raised again, we will discontinue the use of mica in our products” ▪ Mica is also used in some every day products that most women in north America use. Make up such as eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner, foundation and cover up, blush, lipstick ect

How we can stop child labor Children don‘t belong in a mine digging up minerals for products people around the world use every day, children belong in school, but most parents can‘t afford to put there kids in school, but in India Some children are taken away from their parents at a young age and are forced to work, but in other cases some parents sell their kids so they can afford to live. I think that the best way for children to get the education they deserve in life is to shut down all companies that use children for free labor or cheap labor, and open a couple schools where children can go to school for free like we do here in canada

What really goes on in the world This boy lost a limb working for his employer when he was sent to fix a machine Some children mostly girls when the employer doesn‘t like what they did or thinks they didn‘t do what they were supposed to the either get beaten or raped by the employer
