5 The Beginning LETRS (Library Electronic Text Resource Service) Created in September 1992 in response to an expressed need on the part of the humanities faculty for computing support Created in September 1992 in response to an expressed need on the part of the humanities faculty for computing support Became a joint program with University Computing Services in May 1993 Became a joint program with University Computing Services in May 1993 1992

6 LETRS LETRS has three distinct functions: 1)Public computing facility dedicated to the storage and delivery of specialized resources for the analysis of text 2)Production facility dedicated to the production of searchable electronic text, primarily using TEI standards and guidelines 3) Contributes to general system development within the Digital Library Program
