TEMPORARY HEATERS PROPANE SAFETY

TEMPORARY HEATERS l Circulating air type heater : maintain 12” clearance on both sides & rear

TEMPORARY HEATERS l At least 10’ from tarps, canvas or similar coverings l Set level on non- combustible surface

TEMPORARY HEATERS l Locate heater at least 6’ from LPG bottle l Heater blower not directed toward bottle within 20’

TEMPORARY HEATERS l LPG containers shall sit on level substantial surface l Tie cylinder in upright position if necessary

TEMPORARY HEATERS l Supply fresh air l Use fans if necessary

TEMPORARY HEATERS

PROPANE & TEMP HEATERS l Frost on tank means drawing too much vapor reduced fuel flow l Don’t lay cylinder on side l Don’t change regulator setting to increase fuel flow

TEMPORARY HEATERS l Carbon Monoxide odor/colorless 55 PPM max. exposure* l Carbon Dioxide odor/colorless 5,000 PPM * OSHA TLV, 1997

PROPANE l For every 100,000 BTUs, use one 100 lb. tank l Separate heaters by 20’ l Max. 3 bottles (300 lb..) per heater

PROPANE l Manifolds don’t use copper, they leak! Use only LPG or LP-Gas rated rubber hoses No auto-type hose clamps Test connections for leaks

PROPANE l Cylinder connectors should have flame-loss device to shut- off fuel if pilot light or flame goes out

PROPANE l TANKS valve-end up while in use place away from heaters, electrical panels, slag, flames, etc.

PROPANE l Don’t take into confined spaces l Gas is heavier than air l Expands at 1:270 ratio displaces oxygen

PROPANE l Do not store inside buildings or “gangboxes”

PROPANE l Protect tanks from damage

PROPANE l At least one, 20- B:C fire extinguisher per storage area l 501 lbs.>, 10’ from building* * check with local FD

PROPANE l 1,000 OR > pounds = DOT placards Bill of Lading CDL, 21 years old, speak & read English

NATURAL GAS l Flex hose* not to exceed 25’ l Leak test all connections l All connections have pull strength of 400 lb. l Flame-loss device * check with local FD
