5. Buy me some concerns and doubts Some people thought that building a transcontinental railroad would be impossible because they didn’t think that tracks could be laid through the steep Sierra Nevada mountains.

10. If you build it they will come. The railroad connected California to the rest of the United States. Travel to and from California became faster and less expensive. Goods were less expensive because it was cheaper to get them to California. Trade increased in the port cities which helped California grow.
